The Greeneville Police Department has postponed a planned community meeting for next Tuesday with the Hispanic community.
The department received negative feedback online about the planned meeting announced a week ago. Police say the meeting would have included “a question and answer session about anything law enforcement related. A spanish language translator was planned for what the Police Department called instruction about “Rules for the Road”.
Negative feedback included accusations that the department was focusing on hosting an event geared toward a specific demographic, one such complaint claiming the meeting was “an ICE roundup in disguise”.
Police have postponed the event for now, saying the negativity toward the department after the post has overshadowed the intent of the meeting.
Greeneville Police say similar community meetings in the past have focused on such things as Elder Abuse Awareness and How to Spot Scams.
