A man who died in a Sunday morning structure fire has been identified.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department report says that Roger A. Langston died in the fire at 436 Robert Harmon Road, off the Baileyton Road. The fire was reported in a cinderblock structure around 9:30 AM Sunday.
According to the report, family members who lived in a house on the property were awakened by a neighbor telling them that their shed was on fire. Langston’s daughter told officers that her father had been living in the shed, but was also in poor health. The shed did have power, but that it had previously had electrical issues. Langston also used a space heater to keep warm.
Family members found the shed engulfed in flames and were unable to enter. Volunteers from the United, Tusculum, and Mosheim Volunteer Fire Departments, along with firefighters from Greeneville responded.
10 volunteers with the United VFD responded with three trucks, along with those from the other departments. Approximately 500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. Firefighters cleared the scene just before 12:30 PM.
It’s the second fire related death in Greene County this month. On February 8, a man died in a house fire on Milburnton Road in northeast Greene County.
