The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported today that Greene County’s unemployment rate for January was 5 percent, up from 4.2 percent in December.
Greene County’s rate for January 2022 was 4.4 percent.
All 95 Tennessee counties experienced increased unemployment rates in January 2023. A total of 80 counties reported rates less than 5 percent, while 15 counties had rates of 5 percent or higher. Williamson and Moore Counties had the lowest rates at 2.5 percent. Perry County had the highest January rate at 9.9 percent.
The state unemployment rate for January was 3.5 percent, marking the fourth consecutive month at that level.
The end of seasonal holiday jobs in January can be counted as one of the contributing factors that led to higher county unemployment rates. Statewide unemployment numbers are adjusted to consider the impacts of seasonal labor, but county rates are not.
The state unemployment rate for February will be released on March 23.
