Police are investigating a possible sale under false pretense from this week.
Mountain Song Jewelers on Tusculum Boulevard reported a man had come into the store Monday and for an engagement ring. The man identified himself and gave a Mooresburg address. He paid for the $4,000 diamond ring with a check and left.
Friday, the check came back as being written on an account which had been closed for some time. The store attempted to make contact with the man, but the phone number given was also inaccurate.
The investigation remains open.
