The National Weather Service provides tips on preparing for a storm as the topic for the first day of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Tips for preparing before a storm include:
- Planning to have at least 3 days worth of provisions. The recommended amount of day to plan for is 5-7.
- Keep your kits fresh and rotate items out every 6 months. Follow the timeframe of when you change your clocks and pack your kit for the next expected season, while also keeping your non-perishables, first aid kits, medicines, and water in date.
- When packing your kit, don’t forget your specific needs and those specific for your family, also remember to prep for your pets.
Pro Tip: you can keep things sorted by making each individual their own backpack kit that can easily and quickly be grabbed in the event of a disaster.
We never know when disaster will strike, or the hardships it may bring.
Being prepared makes all the difference, especially when responders can’t get to you right away.
Stay tuned-in everyday this week as we announce different National Weather Service storm tips in honor of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
