A man wielding a hatchet in a flood zone was arrested by Washington County authorities on Sunday afternoon.
Deputies responded to the 300 block of Taylor Bridge Road shortly before 4:00 PM after a heavy equipment operator working to clear debris along the roadway was approached by a man identified as 50-year-old Michael Ray Rose of Jonesborough. Rose was reportedly armed with a hatchet. Once the victim saw the weapon, he retreated back to his machinery for safety.
Deputies found Rose in possession of the hatchet. He stated he was trying to see what was going on in the area.
He was arrested for aggravated assault and transported to the Washington County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
