Theft was reported on Monday from a Mosheim home that was recently burned in a fire.
The victim said her house on Dulaney Road caught fire on April 5. Since then, she and her husband have been staying in a hotel. The victims went to the house on Saturday evening and packed some items into boxes.
The next day, the two went back to the house and discovered the front door was standing wide open. Their boxes had been gone through. Numerous items were missing, including various tools and a collection of records. The missing items totaled an estimated $8,500.
The woman’s daughter then stayed at the house on Sunday night. She said that around 3:30 Monday morning, a woman came walking through the door. When the victim’s daughter got up, the suspect took off running and left in a black SUV.
An extra patrol has been put into effect and the victims were advised to call the Greene County Sheriff’s Department if anything else was discovered to be missing.
