Greene County Schools Transfer Quitclaim Deed To Philippi Missionary Baptist Church

The Greene County School Board of Education voted to approve the transfer of a quitclaim deed from Greene County Schools to Philippi Missionary Baptist Church.

According to school board member Mark Rothe, a deed that was recorded back in 1898 was located and was in the name of Greene County Schools, specifically listed as originally being conveyed to School Directors of the 6th District of Greene County. The deed states that the building, which is now Philippi Missionary Baptist Church and is on about an acre of land, was used back in the day for more than one purpose.

The building was utilized with the intent of public school use and house of worship for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and when not occupied by said denominations free to the use of all other Christian denominations. More than 100 years later, the deed still belonged to the Greene County Board of Education.

Due to any possibility in the future where the church may need to file an insurance claim or a situation where the deed would be necessary, Greene County Schools agreed to transfer the deed into the church’s name.
