If you haven’t already, you should be seeing the new 729 area code beginning to pop up on your screen or caller ID from some incoming phone calls.
That mandatory 10-Digit Dialing for the 423 Area Code officially began August 5th.
Beginning this past Friday, September 5th, new telephone lines or services in the local callling area may be assigned numbers with the new 729 area code.
The area code WIIL NOT change for customers currently assigned 423.
BACKGROUND
Effective August 5, customers were required to dial 10 digits (area code + 7-digit telephone number) on local calls including calls within your same area code. Now if you dial just 7 digits your call will not be completed, and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again, including the area code.
NO COST INCREASE
Your current telephone number has not changed, nor has the price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services.
THREE DIGIT DIALING
Also as before you still only have to dial three digits to reach 911 and other service calls which require only three digits.
