Solid Waste Director Jim Greene and Assistant Directors Matthew Elmore and Max Lowe spoke with members of the Budget & Finance Committee today about budget needs for the department for the next fiscal year.
Solid Waste is requesting a little over $300,000 in new monies for 2025-26, the majority $80,000 for tipping fees. All budget requests will be considered once all who receive funding from the county have their individual meetings with the budget committee.
The Solid Waste group also updated budget and finance members on Convenience Centers around the county.
Max Lowe says the Afton site is the most used location, in terms of waste collected. Debusk is also growing in use, as many are now using that site rather than South Greene.
Matthew Elmore also reported between 2,500 and 3,000 tons of debris has been collected from private property owners along the river. Elmore said FEMA had designated the work be finished by October 2nd, but plans are to be completed and the debris site closed around three months earlier by the end of June.
