A police pursuit late Wednesday night resulted in a power outage after the suspect crashed his vehicle.
Around 11:15 PM, A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department saw a Chevrolet Cavalier speeding on Mt. Hebron Road that did not have a properly functioning driver side taillight. The driver, identified as Connor A. Mathis of Birds Bridge Road, turned left onto Jones Bridge Road at a high rate of speed.
The deputy attempted to catch up to Mathis and saw him run the stop sign at the Jones Bridge Road intersection. He then ran off the roadway on 107 Cutoff while trying to negotiate a curve. The car broke guide wires on a light pole, resulting in a power outage in that area.
Mathis reportedly said he fled because he had previously outran law enforcement officers and wanted to do it again.
Mathis was checked by EMS and then transported to the Greene County Detention Center. He was charged with felony reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest, violation of financial responsibility, failure to stop at a traffic control signal, and failure to have required lights on a motor vehicle. He also had an active warrant for failure to appear.
