A Telford man was arrested after an elderly woman was reportedly found in deplorable conditions.
Washington County deputies responded to an address on Al Sliger Road on Friday after receiving an anonymous phone call requesting a welfare check on a 77-year-old woman. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found that 57-year-old Robert M. Dyer was the sole caretaker of the woman, who lived at the residence with him. The woman was reportedly living in deplorable conditions. She was visibly underweight and was lying in a bed covered with feces and urine. Evidence on the scene suggested the woman had been living in those conditions for a substantial amount of time. Due to the woman’s condition, EMS responded to the scene and transported her to a local hospital for treatment.
Dyer was charged with aggravated abuse or neglect of an elderly or vulnerable adult. He was transported to the Washington County Detention Center. Tennessee Adult Protective Services was contacted to assist with the on-going investigation. According to a press release issued by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the woman is in stable condition.
