On August 9th, 2024, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will conduct a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint on S.R. 340 (Fish Hatchery Road), located east of the Hamblen County Line in Greene County. This initiative aims to combat impaired driving, a serious crime responsible for more than 16,000 fatalities and 305,000 injuries annually in the United States.
THP troopers will assess drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment during the checkpoint. The focus will be on identifying and taking corrective actions against those operating vehicles while impaired, in addition to addressing other observed violations, all while ensuring the safety of all motorists.
Recognizing the effectiveness of sobriety checkpoints in reducing impaired driving incidents, the Tennessee Highway Patrol emphasizes their visibility and efficiency as essential tools in this ongoing battle.
This operation underscores THP’s commitment to enhancing road safety and preventing tragedies caused by impaired driving in Greene County and beyond. Motorists are advised to comply with authorities and exercise caution when passing through the checkpoint area on August 9th.
