The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported this afternoon that Greene County’s unemployment rate in May was 3.6 percent, up from 3.1 percent in April.
Greene County’s rate a year ago was 3.5 percent.
The unemployment rate in May 2024 increased in 86 Tennessee counties, decreased in three counties, and remained the same in six counties. Only five counties in the state had a jobless number at or above 4 percent.
Sevier and Williamson counties had the lowest rate at 2.1 percent, while Bledsoe County had the highest at 4.4 percent.
The state rate for May dropped to an all-time low of 3.0 percent. The state and national unemployment rates are seasonally adjusted, while county rates are not.
