Director Heather Sipe at the Greeneville/Greene County Office of Emergency Management Agency is advising that residents should be weather aware this week.
Through Thursday, the county could receive anywhere from 1.5 to 2 inches of rain. Localized flooding is possible with heavier rainfall in passing storms. Although we were able to dodge the majority of some stormy and rainy weather this past weekend because of dry air, Sipe said it’s a different case this week. Beginning on Tuesday there are severe weather risks.
Today we will receive a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with a 70% chance of rain overnight. Sipe said Rainfall and some embedded thunderstorms are already are moving into the region this morning. Showers have already arrived locally, with storms just west of Knoxville, as of 9 AM.
On Tuesday, there is a chance of damaging winds and large hail in the afternoon into overnight hours. For Wednesday, the threat of damaging winds and hail continues with a low-end tornado threat (mostly along the Plateau, not in our region , but with any severe weather, the risk is ever present). The timing for severe weather is uncertain for Wednesday but it will most likely be in the evening, according to Sipe.
