The Greeneville City School Board of Education meets this afternoon and will consider a resolution in opposition to Governor Bill Lee’s proposed Education Freedom Scholarship Act or any form of Private School voucher legislation.
According to the resolution, it states vouchers have not been effective at improving student achievement or closing the achievement gap, most credible research shows little or no difference in voucher and public school students performance.
It also states vouchers leave many students behind because it channels tax dollars into private schools that aren’t required to accept all students nor offer special services they could need.
In addition, the board will consider approving the Clean School Bus Rebate Program, purchases, policy revisions as well as a wrestling trip request. There will be special recognition, discussions on the federal projects budget for 2024, and more.
The board will meet at 5 PM this afternoon at the Kathryn W. Leonard Administrative Office on 129 West Depot Street.
