The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported this afternoon that Greene County’s unemployment rate was 4.8 percent in June, up from 3.7 percent in May.
Greene County’s rate a year ago was 4.9 percent.
All of Tennessee’s 95 counties had increased unemployment rates in June 2023. A total of 77 counties had an unemployment rate less than 5 percent, and the remaining 18 counties had rates of 5 percent or greater. Williamson County had the lowest rate at 2.8 percent, while Bledsoe County had the highest at 6.5 percent.
Unlike the statewide unemployment rate, county jobless numbers are not seasonally adjusted to take into account the effects of seasonal layoffs, such as school breaks.
Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June matched the state’s all-time low of 3.2 percent and was a slight drop from 3.3 percent in May.
