No explosive devices were found after a bomb threat was made at Food City on the Snapps Ferry Road Sunday.
The Greeneville Police and Fire Department, along with EMS were called to the grocery store around 12:30 Sunday afternoon after a male caller said he left an explosive device in the store earlier that day. Employees and customers evacuated the store by the time officers arrived.
When nothing was located by officers, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was requested at the scene with their explosives detection K-9. An explosives sniffing dog was also brought in. The K-9 and its handler responded and conducted a search of the building. Neither of the investigations revealed any suspicious packages. Within a couple of hours the scene was declared safe and store management reopened the store.
The scenario resembles other threats from this weekend. According to Food City management, their company has received similar incidents at other locations in surrounding areas the last few weeks. A Food City in White Pine was evacuated after a threat Sunday. A Food City in Jefferson County and a Walmart in Abingdon, Virginia, were the targets of Saturday threats.
There are no leads or further information about the incident at this time, according to a press release from Greeneville Police Department.
