Former Greeneville Police Chief Tim Ward and incumbent Council Member Ginny Kidwell were elected to the two seats in the Town of Greeneville Municipal Election for 1st Ward Council Member on Thursday. Current Council Member Kristin Girton lost in her first re-election bid.
Ward led all candidates with 403 votes. Kidwell received 343 votes. Girton received 186 votes. Ward also led the ballot in early voting and at all three precincts: Doak, Tusculum View, and High School.
Ward served with the Greeneville Police Department for 33 years, serving as chief since 2018 before his retirement earlier this year. Kidwell served as Alderwoman from 1999 to 2009, and was reappointed to the board after the resignation of Cal Doty in 2022. Doty resigned to seek the Greeneville Mayor’s seat, which he won. Girton was first elected to her seat in 2021. The recent changes to the Town charter mean that Ward and Kidwell will serve a three year term, which will align the city election with the County General elections.
A total of 532 people voted out of the 5,275 registered, for just over 10% voter turnout.
