The Greene County Election Commission reported that Ginny Kidwell has filed to run for Greeneville Councilmember in the 1st ward.
This will be the last odd-year election for the Greeneville City Council. The council approved charter changes last month to extend the term length for the City Council members to 4 years, realigning local elections to even years.
Kidwell was chosen last year to fill the vacant seat for the unexpired term of Cal Doty, who resigned at the time due to changing his residency outside the 1st ward. Afterward, Doty ran for Greeneville Mayor and won the election. Kidwell had previously served on the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen for 10 years.
The Town of Greeneville Municipal Election will be held on August 3.
