Laura White from the Greeneville Water Commission shared some tips with Radio Greeneville to help prevent frozen pipes due to cold weather approaching.
When outside temperatures drop below freezing, water pipes in homes with little or no insulation are likely to freeze and break. A 1/8″ crack in a pipe can spew out more than 250 gallons of water a day!
Some tips to help avoid such disasters include:
1. Disconnect outside garden hoses
2. Open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to piping under sinks and vanities near exterior walls.
3. Run a small trickle of water at vulnerable faucets
If you suspect your water pipes have frozen, please contact the Greeneville Water Commission to get your water turned off.
