Republican Steve Southerland was re-elected for a sixth term in the Tennessee Senate for the 9th District. Southerland beat Democratic challenger Sara Thompason with nearly 83% of the votes in Greene, Hamblen, Cocke, Unicoi, and Sevier County.
Southerland had 14,023 votes in Greene County, with Thompson winning 2,701 votes. Southerland was first elected in 2002.
