Wanda Lousie Woods

Wanda Louise Woods, 92, of Greeneville, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026. Born in Greene County on February 26, 1934, to Alonzo and Esther (Brown) Heck, she was one of 11 children. Wanda married the late James H. Woods in Greeneville on July 1, 1950, and made their home in Maryland and then, since 1978, in Greeneville.

Mrs. Woods was a homemaker and a licensed practical nurse in both Southern Maryland and Greeneville, ending her career as plant nurse for Meco Engineering. She continued her family’s tradition of quilt-making and handed on that skill to her daughter. Wanda was a member of Baileyton Baptist Church.

Mrs. Woods is survived by her children: Steve C. Woods (Pat) of California, Maryland, Norma Fay Pahl, and James C. Woods (Ann) of Greeneville; grandchildren: Father Keith A. Woods, Dawn M. Briner (Bill), Bryan Pahl (Brandi), Brandon Woods (Jourdan), and Cayla Woods; great-grandchildren: Raven Wathen, Ryan Briner, Jay Briner, Julia McCoy, Andrew Bottorff, Delaney, Magnolia, Bellamy, Elsie, and Wyatt Woods, Matthew, James, C.J., and Teddy Pahl; great-great-grandchildren: William Briner-Greeley, Dove Wathen, Cove Wathen, Hudson McCoy, Greyson McCoy, and Siena McCoy. Mrs. Woods is also survived by her sister, Dolly Sexton, and a host of nieces and nephews, with special thanks to niece Karen Hawk.

The family wishes to thank Sam and all the Gentiva Hospice and Brookdale of Greeneville staff for all their care and support.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Baileyton. The funeral service will follow, with the Reverend Tanner Mundy officiating. A graveside service will follow immediately at Marion Robinette Memorial Church Cemetery on Route 70, past the Greene and Hawkins county line.

The family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
