Carl Davis Penley, 92, of Chuckey, the South Central Community, passed away Saturday morning at Life Care Center of Greeneville.
Carl attended Horse Creek Mission Church as long as his health permitted. He sang in the choir and was a longtime member of the trustee committee.
He retired as a stockman from Magnavox after 43 years. He was a loving daddy and papaw who will be missed each day. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and mowing his yard on his John Deere.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Jill and Steve Renner of Greeneville and Tammy Penley of the home; one grandson, Dr. Nat Renner and wife Courtney; one granddaughter, Carla Renner; two great-grandsons, Jackson Renner and wife Reannah and Bryant Renner and wife Sydney; one great-granddaughter, Allie Renner; one great-great-grandson, Beckham Renner; sister-in-law, Vickie Sharon Penley; nieces and nephews, Vanessa and Bill Dearstone, Melvin and Lisa Saults, the Rev. Stephen and Debbie Saults, Michelle and John Morgan, Brooke and Brandon McInturff, Mike and Pat Hopson and Daren Jennings; and many special cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Kay Jennings Penley; one daughter, Joyce Penley; parents, the Rev. James “Jimmy” Penley and Bertha Penley; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Hugh Saults; two brothers and one sister-in-law, the Rev. Ray Penley, the Rev. Amos Penley and Susie Penley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mark and Dicy Jennings; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Deannie Jennings Hopson and Blaine Hopson, Hugh and Lynn Neas Jennings; and niece, Carla “Page” Jennings Reppond.
The family will receive friends from 2-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen Saults officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in the South Central Community.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Nathaniel Renner, Bryant Renner, Melvin Saults, John Morgan, Daren Jennings, Brandon McInturff and Dallas P.
