Tours of the Dickson Williams mansion resumed on March 1, 2026, after being closed temporarily for the winter season.
The mansion was built by and named after William Dickson, a wealthy Irish merchant who served as Greeneville’s first postmaster. William Dickson’s daughter, Catharine, was a famous hostess who counted Presidents Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson among the home’s visitors. Other famous people who visited the mansion are David Crockett, John C. Calhoun, Henry Clay, Marquis de Lafayette, Frances Hodgsen Burnett, and Octavia Walton Le Vert.
The tour of the Dickson-Williams Mansion brings to life the time of Greeneville’s founding, focusing on the Williams family and their period of occupancy. The mansion is restored with original furniture (many from Greene County) and other 1850’s period artifacts.
Tours are conducted daily beginning at 1:00 PM. Each tour is 90-minutes long and is conducted by trained professional interpreters of history. All tours leave from the lobby of The General Morgan Inn, 111 North Main Street, Greeneville, TN. Tickets are available for purchase at the hotel front desk. Adult tickets are $10, students aged 6-18 cost $5, and children under 5 are free.
To schedule group tours for more than 12 people or for a “Tailor Made Tour” call the Main Street: Greeneville, Inc. office at 423-639-7102. The Dickson Williams mansion also hosts exhibits and monthly events.
