North Greene and Unaka battled back and forth Wednesday night in the Region 1-A championship game, but in the end, it was a 3-point basket with 6 seconds remaining by Mercy Buchanan that gave the Lady Huskies the 44-42 win and the opportunity to host a state sectional game on Saturday. They will host Midway, who fell to Coafield 70-35 in the Region 2 championship. This was the first girls’ regional title to make its way back to North Greene since 2022.
Hannah Miller, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, continued her streak of scoring in double digits, leading the way with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Kaydence Marshall joined in with 9 points. Joining Miller on the All-tournament team was Marshall, Buchanan, Loren Blevins, and Ella Head.
