South Greene, Camp Creek, St James, and Debusk Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 975 Viking Mountain Road at 2 am Sunday.
On arrival, firefighters found heavy fire showing from one side the double wide home. South Greene Volunteer Fire Chief David Weems says the fire originated above a wood stove that was in operation at the time. There was extensive damage to the home. A Sheriff’s Department report valued the home at $240,000.
All occupants were safely out of the residence when emergency personnel arrived. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by EMS.A nearby creek was utilized as a draft site for water supply.
The Greene County Highway Department was requested to salt the roadway from icy conditions as a result of firefighting efforts. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department also responded. All units cleared the scene by 630 am.
