An arrest was made after a vehicle had left the scene of an accident.
Police responded to a call from the victims of a hit and run Friday around 10:00 PM, who told officers they were following a silver minivan that had struck their vehicle earlier.
Police stopped the minivan, and asked the driver, identified as Melinda Sexton, of Kingsport, to step out of the vehicle. Reportedly, officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Sexton. When asked, Sexton allegedly admitted to drinking and taking a Lortab earlier in the evening.
Sexton was unable to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and stated, “I’m too drunk to be driving”, according to the report. Sexton was placed under arrest for Driving Under The Influence and for Leaving Scene of Accident Involving Damage to a Vehicle.
