Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating circumstances that lead to a mans death and put a woman in the hospital, after an officer involved shooting in Greene County Saturday night.
According to the release from TBI, preliminary information indicates that just before 10:00 PM deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at a home on Bolton Road in Greeneville. Upon arrival, shots were fired at deputies from inside and continued until after midnight Sunday.
By 12:30 AM, deputies encountered a man, later identified as 37 year-old Joshua A. Baker, and a woman at the back of the residence. Initial reports from the scene indicate Baker pointed a gun at the woman and shot her. Deputies returned fire, striking him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. No deputies were injured. At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing.
TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews.
