Greeneville City Council members Tuesday decided to take another direction to assure safety for those walking in the Depot Street area downtown.
The City Council had been considering the purchase and installation of leaning rails as a safety measure for the sloped sidewalks in that area. More negative than positive comment from property owners in the area however led the town to search for other options.
The board Tuesday agreed to use a staining process suggested by Summers-Taylor. The staining used on the sloped areas will be the same rustic brown color as the crosswalks on that street. The cost of just over $35,650 for the project will come from the Depot Street Project monies.
