Greene County’s unemployment rate for July is up 1.3 percent from the previous month and up 1 percent from a year ago.
The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported Thursday afternoon that Greene County’s unemployment rate in July was 6.8 percent, up from 5.5 percent in June. The county’s rate a year ago was 5.8 percent.
The unemployment rate for July 2025 increased in 92 Tennessee counties and remained the same in three counties. The school break and other seasonal changes in employment contributed to an increase in the majority of the state’s counties.
Sevier County had the lowest rate at 3.3 percent, while Weakley County had the highest at 8.5 percent. Greene County’s rate at 6.8 percent was the second highest in the state.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate for July was 3.6 percent, up slightly from 3.5 percent in June. State unemployment rates are seasonally adjusted, while county rates are not.
