Charlie T. has passed away.
At least that was Charles Tunstall’s radio name when he was an announcer for Radio Greeneville and WGRV from 1968 to 1977.
He had retired from Tusculum College after 35 years as a resource librarian.
Many times during his time at Tusculum, he would be on stage with his guitar. Primarily self-taught but mentored by a large number of individuals, he preferring to entertain as a solo performer. But he also played in a variety of bands over the years. While Tunstall enjoys several types of guitars and playing styles, his main focus is in finger-style playing on the classical nylon-string guitar. He emerged from a country-bluegrass background but enjoyed playing and learning music from different periods.
In addition to music, He had other interests: writing, entertainment, classical guitar, photography, antique automobiles (especially Packard’s). As an entertainer he had a wide repertoire of music and was one of the largest fans of The Grand Ole Opry. He was also the author of two books: Haven Hill, A Spiritual Journey and Second Chance Inn.
Charlie T. passed away early Tuesday morning at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was 80.
