Greene County remained in the moderate range for air quality as of yesterday with other areas in the region in the Green after recent rainfall.
The hazy skies from wildfires in Canada being swept south are expected to continue until possibly this weekend. According to Air Quality Index, the recent rainfall has improved the air quality in certain areas but the Greeneville/Greene County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security still suggests anyone sensitive with breathing issues to stay in doors and reduce outside activities.
Exposure to air pollutants can be hazardous to anyone and can aggravate health problems such as asthma, heart disease, and lung disease. Seniors, children, and those with compromised immune systems are especially at risk. Symptoms include headaches, irritated eyes, fatigue, chest pains, difficulty breathing and more.
The EMA personnel will continue to monitor air quality information for our immediate area and within the region. For information on air quality visit Airnow.gov.
