The Town of Greeneville and Greene County will be celebrating the rich history of the area with heritage events on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26.
This year’s heritage weekend will be kicked off on Friday, April 25th at 6:30 pm for the State of Franklin Candlelight Walking Tour with Greene County Historian Tim Massey. The tour will begin in front of the First Baptist Church at the Robert Kerr historical marker and includes stops at the Big Spring, Capitol State of Franklin Cabin, Andrew Johnson Statue, Greene County Courthouse, and the mural on Depot Street. The public is invited to attend this free event. Attendees can bring a lantern for ambiance, though it should still be light at this time in the evening.
The main event, which is also free, will be Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the State of Franklin Cabin in Bicentennial Park (next door to the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center at 203 N College Street). There will be several presentations, informational booths, and demonstrations. There will be kids’ activities, such as coloring sheets and a scavenger hunt. Appalachia Rising Kitchen food trailer will be on-hand with an Appalachian-inspired menu.
