Following the Sheriff’s Department, Animal Control was the second and final department to address the Budget and Finance Committee with 2025-2026 budget requests Wednesday.
BODY CAMS
Like the Sheriff’s Department, Animal Control Director Chris Cutshall is also seeking Body Cams for his officers.
Director of Accounts and Budgets Danny Lowery suggested if funding is approved for both departments, requests could be bundled together through the apparent low bidder secured by the Sheriff’s Department
CLERICAL POSITIONS
Cutshall has also included two clerical positions , one at the Animal Control Office on Hal Henard Road and the other at the former Humane Society building on the hill behind it. That building is currently used for overflow but could be used for housing cats and dogs that have exceeded their three day limit at the main shelter. Cutshall says the animals could stay between five and eight days at the former Humane Society building in hopes of adoption. That facility became vacant when the humane society moved to Rufe Taylor Road.
The two clerical positions, at $15 an hour, would cost a total of $62,400 ($31,200 each) not including benefits.
THURSDAY
Kevin Swatsell with the County Highway Department will address the Budget and Finance Committee on Thursday. The meeting begins at 8:30 am at the Annex.
FUNDING REQUESTS
Based on discussions Wednesday, it appears the Budget and Finance Committee will hear all requests before making firm decisions on any department, which is the normal procedure in such budget development matters.
