Interstate 40 at the North Carolina/Tennessee state line is expected to partially reopen on March 1st.
North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein says one lane will open in each direction, with reduced speeds in place as the area will still be a construction site.
I-40 has been closed since late September 2024 after landslides caused by Hurricane Helene washed out sections of the road.
The closure forced motorists to take long detours and increased traffic on other routes.
