An East Bernard Avenue couple, whose home was heavily damaged by fire January 15th, will soon have a chance to rebuild due to rezoning in that area. The recommendation from the Greeneville Planning Commission is headed to the City Council for consideration.
13 parcels from the burned out property to the former Delfasco, are planned for rezoning from M-2 High Impact Use Industrial to B-4 Arterial Business. The new B-4 zoning allows for construction. Plans by Walter and Alice Michaud, who requested the rezoning, are to put a manufactured double wide home on the two properties. The damaged home, and another they own next door, were razed this week. As part of the process, all property owners in that area were notified, and approved of the rezoning without objection. The rest of the adjacent area is already zoned B-4. The previous zoning creates issues with rebuilding or financing in those parcels. The new zoning allows for residential as well as commercial business use.
The Michauds were able to escape the home at 317 East Bernard without injury when a passerby notified them of the fire.
