The Greeneville City Council will meet this afternoon. During the meeting, there will be a swearing-in of newly elected council members, Councilman Matt Hensley, re-elected Councilman Tim Teague, and re-elected Mayor Cal Doty.

The City Council agenda includes a consideration of a sale to Greene County for 5.1 acres of property on Hal Henard Road. The Town of Greeneville has 1/3 ownership and the Greene County School system has 2/3 ownership. The county currently utilizes the property as a convenience center. If approved, the purchase consideration needs to go before the county commission. The lot would be sold for $100,000.

The city council will consider approving special event requests for the 2024 Turkey Trot, Fall Festival of Nations, Wake Up to United Way, Halloween Hustle 3 Mile Walk/Run, and Halloween Happenings.

The council will also discuss options on how to move forward and fund the traffic signal at the Serral Drive and 11E intersection. Additionally, council members will consider appointments to the Greeneville Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Greeneville/Greene County Regional Solid Waste Planning Board, and the Greeneville/Greene County Library Board of Trustees.

The meeting begins at 4 PM at the Greeneville Energy Authority Building, in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom located on 110 North College Street.
