Prominent community member and longtime Greeneville Police Department lieutenant Bobby Wells passed away on Wednesday at the age of 89.
Wells joined the Greeneville Police Department in 1957. He was later promoted to lieutenant, a position he held until his retirement in 1981. Following his retirement, Wells managed the Glenn Hills Utility District. He also managed the Star Tobacco Warehouse, Bernard Warehouse, and New Burley Tobacco Warehouse.
Wells served on the Greene County Board of Education for 19 years and served as president of the Greene County Livestock Association. He also served on the board of the Greene Farmers Co-op, the board of the Greene County Farmers Mutual Insurance Association, and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Planning Commission.
Visitation for Bobby Wells will be Saturday from 1-3 and 5-7 PM at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Sunday at 3:00 PM in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel.
