A Jefferson County paramedic was killed and another injured Saturday night when their ambulance was struck by a tractor-trailer at the I-40/81 split.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the ambulance was merging onto I-40 westbound from I-81 southbound with its lights activated around 9:30 Saturday night. While attempting to cross lanes and turn into the emergency crossover, the ambulance struck a tractor-trailer that was in the left lane at the merge.
Paramedic Jeremy Sutton was killed in the crash while paramedic Sarah Brooks was taken to the UT Medical Center in stable condition.
