Peggy Ann Arrowood, the namesake of Peggy Ann Bakery in Greeneville, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 90.
Born Peggy Ann Taylor in the Stoney Creek Community of Carter County, she later moved to Greeneville in the 1950s with her husband, William “Bill” Arrowood. Peggy became the bakery manager at the Super Dollar grocery store, which was a predecessor to Food City. In 1982, she became a founding partner and the namesake of Peggy Ann Bakery, where she was known for her specialty in decorating cakes for all occasions.
Her son Johnny Dale Arrowood took over as the owner and operator until his death in 2020. Peggy Ann’s granddaughter Stacy Arrowood and daughter-in-law Imogene Arrowood continued the family tradition after John’s passing.
Peggy was an active member of the First Christian Church, the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 1598, and the Andrew Johnson Women’s Club.
Arrangements are being handled by Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
