A Dementia Caregiver Program will be held at the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center, 203 North College Street, on August 29th from 9-10:30 AM.
Alzheimer’s Tennessee and Ballad Health will host the program, geared toward dementia caregivers. Family members of someone with dementia should also attend this free program. Tracey Kendall Wilson, Regional Director of Alzheimer’s Tennessee in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, and Hope Broyles, Community Liaison for Ballad Health Homecare, will give the presentation.
If you or someone you know has just received a diagnosis or even if you have been on this journey for several years, you can learn from this program. Wilson said this program will start with a basic overview of dementia and different subtypes. The hosts will then go into depth on information regarding behavioral expressions, communication strategies, how to deal with safety concerns, and other factors that can come into play.
Caregivers will also get advice on self-care. As you know, when we care for someone sick or with a disease, we often forget to take care of ourselves. This program will help you understand the entirety of the situation you are in, no matter what stage you are at.
Programs and services for support, education, and guidance will continue through Alzheimer’s Tennessee. Regional Director of Alzheimer’s Tennessee Tracey Kendall Wilson said she has been in this business for 25 years and knows that people may be hesitant to reach out for help. She wants all to know that you are not alone, there is a huge community of people experiencing the same as you.
Wilson said the programs create a safe and welcoming environment, so do not have any doubt or fear. Consider attending the Dementia Caregiver Program at the Roby Center on August 29th. The program is open to the public. For any questions, call (423) 232-8993 or (423) 639-3128.
