Today is the very first day of Crockett Days at David Crockett Birthplace State Park. Crockett Days continues until August 18th with festivities including live music, entertainment, food, craft vendors, activities for families, and scenic trails.
The three-day journey into America’s past observes frontiersman David Crockett’s 238th birthday. He was born on August 17, 1786. According to a press release, the event will celebrate Crockett’s pioneer legacy, living history demonstrations will showcase frontier life, including blacksmithing and traditional crafts. Storytelling sessions will focus on adventure and exploration. Visitors are encouraged to wear 18th century attire.
“This is an event for all ages, and it will be three great days of fun,” said Park Manager Joe Nowotarski. “This is an appreciation of David Crockett, and it brings a great perspective on his life and times. Everyone is welcome.” Crockett was born near Limestone and moved to Lawrence County in 1817. He died at the Alamo Mission in 1836 while aiding Texans in their fight for independence from Mexico. David Crockett Birthplace State Park became a state park in 1973.
David Crockett State Park will host Crockett Days beginning this evening at 6 PM. There will be music by the Flying J’s and Ten Penny Drive. Saturday’s festivities begin at 9 AM and concludes at 5 PM, with a Flintlock Shoot from 9:30-1 PM. Sunday’s hours are from 10 AM to 4 PM.
