Planning Administrator with the Town of Greeneville’s Planning Department, Randy Davenport, reported Tuesday to Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission members there has been a drop in building permits and plans submitted.
Davenport said it seems to be a universal circumstance and could be because of the economy, interest rates, and many other factors, including people wanting to wait on the outcome of the election. He added there’s a drop in housing permits, residential and commercial developments have slowed down, and it’s looking like it’s going to be a wait and see period. Davenport does not think the permits will stop all together but believes there will be a delay and will pick back up in the coming year.
Interest in Greeneville has not gone down though, that’s one fact you cannot deny. People still want to relocate and live here. According to Planning Administrator Randy Davenport, the department still gets calls from people out of state asking about Greeneville.
At the planning commission meeting there was also an update on a project that was supposed to begin soon. KFC developers of a site across Texas Roadhouse on the 11E recently spoke with Davenport and said they are delaying the construction.
The new restaurant will be built on 3507 East Andrew Johnson Highway and will replace the KFC located at 1735 EAJH. The developers were going to start construction this year but have now decided they are waiting until early next year.
There has been no mention of the second restaurant that was briefly discussed during the planning commission meeting in April of this year, but there was speculation of a Pizza Hut in a vacant lot near the new KFC site.
