A Poplar Springs Road man reported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday that more than $3,000 was stolen from his bank account while he was in jail.
The victim said he went to jail in August 2023 and left his belongings, including his phone, with the suspect. When the victim got out of jail in May, he noticed he was missing $3,300 out of his bank account.
The victim spoke with the bank and discovered there were three separate transfers of $1,100 going into the suspect’s account. The victim did not authorize the transfers and believes the suspect got his banking information from his phone.
The suspect was identified in the report, but no charges were listed.
