Police took a report Friday afternoon regarding a local phone scam.
The complainant told officers that her mother received a call from someone who said his name was Detective Mike Fincher with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. The victim was told she had an active warrant for failure to appear for jury duty.
The male stated the warrant could be resolved if they would send $4500 through a Bitcoin ATM used for federal payment.
The complainant said she was able to talk the man down to $1000 dollars due to her mother’s fixed income. The victims borrowed the money and sent it by the ATM in Ingle’s.
The Police Department reminds everyone that neither the Police Department nor the Sheriff’s Department would call asking for payments over the phone.
