Greeneville and Science Hill faced off with each other at the Greene County Tennis Center on Monday afternoon. The Hilltoppers showed why they are a team to not only be considered a power in the region, but also in the state as they swept the Greene Devils 9-0.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Devils put up a fight in doubles action before falling behind 3-0. Emma Waddell and Emma Sauceman were defeated 8-4, Maggie Morelock and Kiley Scott were on the wrong end on a 8-3 decision, and Abi Kate Moore and Briley Catron fell 8-5.
In singles action, Moore and Scott both had competitive matches before eventually succumbing to 8-6 and 8-5 decisions. Jorja Ward battled her opponent before falling 8-4.
In boys’ action, it seemed as the Greene Devils would be on the verge of collecting some points away from the visiting Hilltoppers, but they too would find themselves trailing 3-0 after the double’s matches. Jack Lampe and Isaac McGill took their opponents to the limit before coming up short 8-5. Jackson Weems and Dominic Tweedfell 8-4, while Nick Thomas and Ace Patel were defeated 8-3.
In singles, Weems got off to a hot 2-1 start before being overtaken in a 8-3 decision, while McGill fell 8-2.
Both teams saw their record go to 10-4 on the year and will travel to Sevierville on Thursday to face off with the Smoky Bears before returning to conference action on Friday against Cherokee.
