The Iris Festival is this weekend rain or shine with the 3 Mile Fun Walk & Run to begin at 8 AM. The race ends at 10 AM. The festival hours are Saturday from 10-5 PM and Sunday from 12-5 PM.
The walk will start in front of First Baptist Church on 211 North Main Street. Check-in is from 7:30-8 AM in the parking lot of First Baptist Church. Registration is $30. A group rate of $20 per person is offered for a group of five or more.
People can still register online by visiting https://runsignup.com/Race/TN/Greeneville/IrisFestival. Registration ends May 18 at 11:59 PM. There is a Sign-up Fee for $2.80. There are no refunds.
The course runs through the heart of historic downtown Greeneville, the second oldest town in Tennessee, passing the Home of President Andrew Johnson, Historic General Morgan Inn, Greeneville Town Hall, State of Franklin’s Capitol and the Greene County Courthouse.
There will be awards for the first place winner in each age group. Age groups include: 14 & Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and up.
No pets are allowed to accompany walkers & runners during the race but pets on a leash are allowed at the festival.
Weather
Weather could impact the festival this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, no severe weather is expected at this time but we can expect rain showers Saturday and Sunday, moderate to heavy. From tonight through Saturday, there could be up to 1.5 inches of rainfall in our area with isolated flooding possible. The Greeneville/Greene County Emergency Management Agency will monitor the weather through out the weekend.
