A few people were injured during a motor vehicle accident on the 900 block of Snapps Ferry Road yesterday, with two needing to be transported to the hospital.
The accident was reported after 11 AM and involved three vehicles. According to the Greeneville Police Department report, vehicle one driven by Randall M. Wittig was pulling out of Food City onto Snapps Ferry Road. Wittig reportedly made a right before checking it was clear and rear-ended vehicle two. The driver of vehicle two Andrew T. Harrell then swerved and hit a third vehicle head on.
The report states Wittig was issued a warning citation for failure to yield and was not injured during the crash. Harrell was reportedly not injured in the crash but he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. According to another police report, Harrell performed poorly on many sobriety tests and beer cans were found both outside and inside of his vehicle. An odor of alcohol was also allegedly detected by officers. A passenger in his vehicle was checked by EMS and had a suspected sprained ankle.
The third vehicle’s driver Peggy S. Borchers was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center with minor injuries. The passenger Iva Erikson reportedly complained of chest pain and appeared to have two broken ankles. Erikson was also taken to the medical center by EMS.
