The Budget and Finance Committee met yesterday morning where they heard from Greene County Partnership President Jeff Taylor and Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison on the $2.1M grant that was awarded to the county for the Snapps Ferry Road Project.
The funds were awarded through the State of Tennessee for the development of Snapps Ferry and according to Taylor, they are just waiting on the contract. Mayor Morrison said the county invested $1.3M into the property as an Economic and Community Development project with the intent to attract businesses and enhance the value of our local economy, business and industry sectors.
With funds also provided by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) through a program the county was approved for, Taylor said that brings a total of $2.8M that would be used for the development. According to the Mayor, there were about 40 applicants for the grant, 20 sites were visited and out of those 18 sites were funded, but Greene County received the most funding. He said the state recognized that this property is their best option, it’s conveniently located, and already has the infrastructure.
As of this week, Mayor Morrison said TVA is out doing a biology report of the site and said the archeology and geology has checked out. Greene County Partnership President Taylor has already received interest from businesses to locate there, but now they are just waiting on the next steps. Taylor says they are happy with the state of Tennessee.
